Hotel Renovation
Innovative building materials, including mycelium concrete and recycled composites, are at the forefront of this hotel renovation.
The family-centered hotel renovation was meant to meld the working professional and the family vacation by creating a space which was both mature and welcoming to all ages. My portion of the project focused on the dining spaces, creating a ground floor restaurant open to all ages and a 21+ lounge for working professionals.
Regardless of the space, each aspect of the project took inspiration from the historic location of Navy Pier and rich history of the City of Chicago itself.

The wave forms on the left of the restaurant use light as both a tool and art form to recreate the waves of Lake Michigan which break mere meters from the seats shown above.
The restaurant bar serves as both a kid friendly juice bar and standard bar.
The simple artistic elements throughout the space were meant to serve both functionality and beauty including lighting, acoustic paneling and materials.
The interior rooftop lounge is based off of the rich jazz and metropolitan history in the City of Chicago. While the textiles are modern, the custom bar lends into the rich Art Deco inspired architecture.
The first floor restaurant made use of recycled bricks found throughout the Chicago, local woods for the acoustic paneling and extensive views.
The restaurants aim was to create a neutral and calm space in an otherwise hectic aspect of hospitality, melding the cool with the calm.
The rooftop lounge’s exterior boasts dark tiles which are a continuation of the interior space and which also aims to provide a sense of mystery and richness. The faux marble provides luxury without the price tag of luxury and without the worry of outdoor marble maintenance.
The globe lighting is a mobile lighting element which provides a sense of control for all users and which can foster and element of ease of changeability should the need arise.
